This is a little secret put popcorn in refrigerator overnight. Almost all your kernels will pop.
Heat vegetable oil and 3 kernels of popcorn in a large covered pot over medium heat burner. (I prefer a see through lid makes it easy to watch the action)
Wait for kernels to pop.
Once popped add butter and popcorn.
Add sugar in a thin even layer over the popcorn.
Cover with the lid and using oven gloves or mitts to hold the pot start shaking the pan and rotating the mixture.
Alternate keeping the popcorn pan over the heat for 3 seconds and off for 3 seconds (this keeps the sugar
from burning and evenly coats the kernels with the surgery goodness)
Once the popping has slowed to once every 2 to 3 seconds remove the pot from the heat and continue to shake for another 15 to 30 seconds
Pour into a large bowl and stir to break up the clumps. ( I found using a spoon for the first minute works but then use your hands to continue mixing and removing un-popped kernels till cool and yes it hurts!)
While mixing add salt to taste while still warm.
For a little something different pour mix before completely cool into a butter greased cake pan and slice with a sharp knife into squares after cool.
I found adding other spices such as cinnamon or chili powder during the cooling gives this an interesting flavor. You won’t know till you try
